Once Published

Today, I want to share somthing that I wrote back in 1980.
I was in the last year of high school. It was a "continuation"
school called Calla. We had a librarian named Carolyn, she was a very cool lady. Carolyn knew that I liked to write so she ask if I would submit a few of my writings for possible publication in a
book called "Green Leaves" (???I think??? Hey!!! It's been a long time!!!).

Anyway, she said the only thing was is that the deadline for submissions was that evening. I didn't make a habit of carring my work around with me, so I told her I would have to
skip this endeavor. But, Carolyn was not to be discouraged, she said if I could come up with anything before the end of the day, she would be happy to submit whatever I had on my behalf.
So, what is a self respecting writer supposed to do!??
I sat right down and penned three poems, and gave them to her.

About a week or so later, I went into the library and Carolyn had a surprise for me. One of the poems she had submitted for me got chosen for the book!!!!!
I thought it was cool, and it was a great feeling to have something published! It was a very small publication, put out by
Manteca High, but, hey, you gotta start somewhere!!! Right?

My Mom, being the wonderful, proud Mom that she always was, bought about 5 of the books. She gave me, her friend Barbara, and my future sister-in-law each a copy.
I have lost mine, and have no idea what happened to the other three. But, I have the original draft, so I can share it with you.

By the way, if someone from Manteca High School should happen by my blog, and if you happen to know how I can get a copy of the book
"Green Leaves" please leave a comment!!!

Here is the only poem I have published:

I CRIED A TEAR

an original writing
BY
Lexie R. Minut
1980

I was just thinking of how it was when you loved me

Then night fell and darkness washed over me

And I cried a tear

I remember how you used to make me laugh, and I'd be happy

Then the clouds came and it began to rain

And I cried a tear

Then I thought of how you hurt me

And I cried a tear

All of the pain had come to me

How you left me for someone else

And I cried a tear

Now she has done you wrong, left you to cry

As I think of you now, I smile, and I.....

LAUGH MY SILLY HEAD OFF!!!!!

I love the poem, but I loved it when I read it the first time.
